ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a rare disease that is close to our heart, as the better half(hahaha) of Nimble Muse was diagnosed with ALS in 2001. You are probably aware of the disease from the infamous Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014. About 6000 people are diagnosed per year in the US, with veterans like Rhonda being approximately twice as likely to develop ALS. It is an incurable and terminal disease with no successful treatments, and while Rhonda has atypical ALS (very slow progressing like Stephen Hawking), most people die within 2-5 years after being diagnosed. This wall art print is a great way to bring attention to this horrible disease that robs the person of every muscle function, including the ability to talk or eat, leaving them completely paralyzed from head to foot, but with their mind continuing to function like normal, usually with no loss of cognitive ability or mental processing, trapped inside a body that is completely useless while they and their loved ones and caregivers await their death.
